ACK!!  Please remember, Linux is *not* Windows, and one of the
examples of this is that Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't tell applications
what it's doing.

The *only* time that you should type Ctrl-Alt-Del is AFTER X
is properly shutdown, and you have logged out of all console 
sessions.
