Most people do, even if they use Maildir format. For instance:

!ls ~/Mail

archive commercial debian dns friends im2000 jobs mutt nanog qmail rpg trikes 

are all Maildirs where I stash things.

~/Maildir is a replacement for /var/spool/mail/username.
