This is bad (<1/6).

I've got a VIA 686a chipset, but using DMA here is dangerous. As I
wrote in the last message, I trashed the discs several times. Kernel
version 2.4.17. Maybe somebody else can tell how to improve this
safely. There might also be some hopefully safe changes you could make
in the BIOS.
