Your box crashed?

Why did it crash?

Probably didn't have anything to do with sound. I was bouncing between tty and X which sometimes goes flaky and locks me out (ie. no keyboard or mouse input, screen frozen between tty and X). Mostly likely this has to do with Nvidia drivers and video card with a LCD monitor hooked up via DFP cabling. With that setup, who knows who flaked out first!

Did your sound card go bad, maybe? Or a component on your mainboard?

I have mostly ruled out a hardware issue since (pardon the implications) the hardware works great under Windows ME.

The other thing is that the driver just doesn't recognize the card as being valid.

I've also doubled checked that there are no IRQ conflicts, PNP enabled kernel with ISA-PNP modularized.

Are other people with YMF744 based cards using OSS or ALSA? The card did work under SuSE using ALSA.
