Re: startx not starting X and mouse wheel not wheeling
I don't have an intellimouse so this is an educated guess :-)
I think you may have a conflict between X and gpm. Try disabling gpm and
setting your device to /dev/psaux in XF86Config-4:
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
