Now that I think about it, I suppose you could use lintian. That's more
a verification tool for maintainers, though; a lot of the errors and
warnings it encounters won't actually cause any harm, and there are
still many real errors it can't detect. You'll also find some pretty
scary results if you start applying it to packages on a regular basis.
