Assuming the mouse does work, did you make a symbolic link mouse to ttyS0
(NOT tty0: this is a console). Try first:
# cd /dev
# ln -s ttyS0 mouse
and try to start X win now.
If not, how did you configure your X windows? There is a setup program
called 'anXious'. You can also edit the configuration file /etc/X11/XF86Config.
