es1370 sound stopped working
Greetings, all--
I am running Potato with a SoundBlaster PCI64 sound card, which uses
the es1370 kernel module. I installed the soundcore and es1370 modules
a couple of days ago, did a chmod a+rw to all /dev devices in group
'audio', and everything worked fine.
This morning I was using the Windows program Zillions of Games under
Wine 20001202 (latest snapshot). It had been working well for days,
when suddenly the sound went out. Thinking I had befuddled Wine with a
failed install from earlier in the day, I reinstalled Wine and
Zillions. Still no sound.
Hmm... I tried playing a sound with 'bplay JUNGLE.WAV' -- it just
hung. I tried 'xmms JUNGLE.WAV'. The xmms window popped open, but
pressing the PLAY button did nothing. I couldn't bplay any other sound
either. Yes, the sound files seem to be OK; I checked them on another
machine.
I tried 'cat JUNGLE.WAV > /dev/dsp'. This worked when I first set up
sound a few days ago, but today it just hangs again.
Any idea why attempts to play sounds, by whatever means, should
suddenly start hanging? I am appending as much relevant system data as
I can think of.
