I've seen it on OpenBSD once, it turned out (according to someone on an
OpenBSD mailinglist) that it's an ageold UNIX bug that keeps resurfacing
from time to time under certain circumstances.

Funny to meet it in Linux though ...

I'm sorry, but I can't help you, does a reboot fix it?
You could also try to reset the console (type `reset' [enter}) and see
what happens.
