The default installer works pretty well though. StarOffice is scheduled
for release under GPL/LGPL October 13, 2000. I would expect that a

$ strings foo.doc | less
...works.
mswordview, abiword, and Corel WordPerfect, may work with varying
degrees of success for various documents.
