Hello Gary (and ALL).
You're right. I don't know why, but when I installed the .deb created
by make-kpkg, modversions.h just disappeared. I've recompiled the kernel
with make-kpkg and saved modversions.h *during* its compiling, so I was able to
install device3dfx. Now what?
Yes, (now) I have a /dev/3dfx (BTW, thanx). Yes, I've modprobed 3dfx.o, but the same
damned thing ocurred when I try to install the xserver-svga. That is,
# dpkg -i xserver-svga_3.3.6-10_i386.deb
....
Do you want to create the XFree86 configuration file? (y/n) [y]
(switch to graphics mode, select card and videomode and...(

And there is another thing.....
I've apt-got quake-3dfx (it also installed libglide2-v3), and when I try
$ quake-3dfx
This is what happen:

So, Gary, if you or anyone knows what is going on, please, tell me,
because I don'!!!
BTW, lspci shows: "00:0a.0 VGA compatible controller: 3Dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo 3

Again, sorry the english errors and the loooooong message.
