Great idea.  

Another way we can all help is to be familiar with the contents of the FAQ
(or even part of it); and when a faq is asked on the list, reply with a
pointer to the question. 

Another way is to write up a submission to the faq when we notice
something is being asked often (i.e., a question and its complete answer).
