PS/2 Logitech 4-button Wireless MouseMan troubles

Greetings Debianers...

I recently replaced my imps/2 with a ps/2 logitech 4-button wireless
mouseman. I had always had some trouble with the imps/2 -- X couldn't
recognize it at all, but GPM would, so i had to use the -R flag in GPM and
set X up to use /dev/gpmdata and the mousesystems protocol (i'm sure most
are familiar with this method). I never had to mess with mouse wheel
support, because my mouse wheel had gotten so dirty by the time I installed
debian that it was _completely_ impossible to move it, but clicking it
worked fine and I was happy. The same problem persisted even after
replacing my mobo.

Now I've got this nifty 4-button wireless mouseman and even stranger things
are going on. I've tried setting it up in X with every protocol possible,
and X will not recognize it. I've tried setting it up with GPM and for
some reason the only protocol it will work with is imps/2; thus, I have
ended up using exactly the same configuration as with my old mouse -- using
GPM's repeater to do the job. This is quite weird -- in fact, a friend of
mine running potato (i'm running woody by the way) got exactly the same
thing (he ordered both of them himself) and has it working fine.

So, I'm sort of wondering how in the world to get it working correctly --
Right now I'm using this handy 4-button mouse with a wheel as a normal
3-button mouse. If/when I can get it set up to use the correct protocol,
etc., I still won't know how to set up the wheel to work correctly and the
4th button to do something useful.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)
