segmentation fault

I installed XFree86 and when I execute startx I get:
 
/usr/bin/X11/startx:  line 74:  141 Segmentation fault    xinit $clientargs
-- $serverargs
 
Also get "segmentation fault" when I try to run XF86Setup.  Any ideas what
the cause is?
