Thanks for your reply.. it seems that the problem was with the 2.0.36 kernel.. i took the resc1440.bin from the 2.1 r4 and now it works well.
And by the way, for the thinkpad 365x, you should not specify floppy=thinkpad, or at least it did not work for me.
