First off, do you have mouse support in console mode?  If not run the
program 'gpm' that will set up your mouse in console and create the
files you need.  Then your mouse will most likely work in 'X'. Or you
could probably make '/dev/mouse' and link it to your mouse. Please don't
reinstall, not necessary.
