Well I use lprng and gs and it works fine. Had to get the old
gs-5.10-1.deb recently, as gs was going bezerk (gv something.ps returned a
whole bunch of library errors).
I don't know if this is exactly related, but I did notice the same
symptoms as the original poster. Downgrading gs helped.
