that probably means you are running out of low memory (below 640kB
barrier) type mem, if you dont have at least 600kB free i'd say you gotta
do some cleanup, i suggest you make a boot disk or boot directly from the
CD if possible.

yes you can, i advise you do this actually, esp if your not confident with
an fdisk program(my first linux install i wiped my C: drive, mys econd i
had more then 1 active partition and the system didnt boot right) debian's
setup will gracefully autodetect the existing partitions. i use pqmagic4
to do this on any system that has to co exist with another kind of
partition(that is not 100% linux)

if your using FIPS (a free partition resizer) you should..if your using
pqmagic, it doesnt matter. in any case you should its always good
practice to defrag on a very regular basis, although it in no way will
help/hurt you when installing linux.

lih-nucks i think is the 'real' way but i always say LIE NUCKS. some hate
me for it..but i dont care :)
