Branden, thank you very much for your answer.

Yes I have xlib6g 3.3.2.3a-11, my locale.alias file has exactly that lines
(concerning the Portuguese language).  I also took a look on two other files on
the same directory: compose.dir and locale.dir. Both didn't mention pt_BR, only
pt_PT.  Then I decided to add to them the lines:

		In compose.dir:
		iso8859-1/Compose   pt_BR.ISO8859-1    

		In locale.dir
		iso8859-1/XLC_LOCALE pt_BR.ISO8859-1       

After these slight modifications WPrefs and some other X applications (like
xterm) stopped complaining. 

I really don't know how to face this. Doesn't X support pt_BR  (only pt_PT) or
this is a bug I should warn someone?
