That's very strange, and I'm afraid I have no further ideas. I suggest
you find an XFree86 mailing list and post the question there. Then you're
more likely to get help from a real expert. I'm not sure how you can
subscribe to the XFree86 mailing lists, but try going to www.xfree86.org.
I'm sure there will be some info for you there.
