Ultraound MAX, gus.o module

Hi,

I've recompiled my kernel but cannot get the midi for of my
GUS MAX to work. /dev/audio works fine, but I am unable to play
midi files. I have read the /usr/doc/ultra/ docs, but I don't
grasp how to actaully get it to work when recompiling the kernel.

According to the README, support for GUS should _not_ be compiled
into the kernel, but the module gus.o should be used. However, 
since I have compiled 2.0.34 and the debian dist is 2.0.32 (HAMM),
I can't insert the gus.o module using gusins. I cannot find a way to 
compile it, either.

Is there a simple, clear, step-by-step documentation to get midi to
work for GUS, anywhere? I'd like some fingers before I dig into the
process of recompiling the 'debian' kernel.
