How to stop being root when mailing??

Would appreciate it if someone could explain how to keep my mailer under
Linux from signing the To: field as root@igalaxy.net instead of
kaynjay@igalaxy.net --> I can't use the system until that's resolved since
replies are misdirected, and lists like this reject my mail since, as root,
I'm not subscribed.

I'm using exim and elm+ under a PPP connection.
