Argh, I just realised that on the box that works, I have mutt doing
context-sensitive from addresses anyway, so they're all specified in
my .muttrc eg


send-hook . "my_hdr From: hamish@rising.com.au (Hamish Moffatt)"
send-hook . "set signature=~/.signature"
send-hook debian "my_hdr From: hamish@debian.org (Hamish Moffatt)"
send-hook debian "set signature=~/.signature.debian"


So I don't know if this machine works properly or not.
