closing the session the background process aren' t killed

I have noticed that since some time, when I close a session, if I have
launched some programs in background, these programs aren' killed. What is
the packages that has changed this?

Is a kernel decision? ... I use [pre-2.1.37-5] kernel.

PS. I think it' s a useful thing.

Thanks in advance.

Bye.
