I have noticed that running (unstable tree exclusively) latex from
emacs in X, if I should restart latex, as the emacs manual, I am
almost certain, suggests is ok, latex dumps core. I haven't tried
this when not in X.
I have used this method extensively with Slackware and this has not
happened. It apparently is not harmful, except to litter the small
hard drive with 2.5 to 4 and up Megabyte core files.
