cannot get ps/2 mouse to work with x11

I've got a DECpc LPx 466d2 with a PS/2 type mouse. The mouse worked
under X11 with debian 0.93R5 but I cannot get it to work with my new
0.93R6 install.

The particulars...

bash# ls -al /dev/*mous*
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 10, 3 Oct 18 12:01 /dev/atimouse
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 10, 4 Oct 18 12:01 /dev/jmouse
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 10, 0 Oct 18 12:01 /dev/logimouse
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 10, 2 Oct 18 12:01 /dev/msmouse
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 10, 1 Oct 18 12:01 /dev/psmouse
bash#

and from XF86config...

# **********************************************************************
# Pointer section
# **********************************************************************

Section "Pointer"
    Protocol "PS/2"
    Device "/dev/psmouse"

and the error after "startx"...

Fatal server error:
Cannot open mouse (No such file or directory)

Any suggestions on how to fix this???

TIA.
