iproute2 (man ip)

ricardo@kebek:~ $ sudo aptitude show iproute
Paquete: iproute
Estado: instalado
Instalado automáticamente: no
Versión: 20041019-3ubuntu2
Prioridad: importante
Sección: net
Desarrollador: Andreas Barth <aba@not.so.argh.org>
Tamaño sin comprimir: 1413k
Depende de: libatm1, libc6 (>= 2.3.4-1)
Descripción: Professional tools to control the networking in Linux kernels
 This is `iproute', the professional set of tools to control the
networking behavior in kernels 2.2.x and later.

 At least, the options CONFIG_NETLINK and CONFIG_NETLINK_DEV (or
CONFIG_RTNETLINK) must be compiled into the running
 kernel.

 This package is also known as iproute2 upstream and in some documentation.

Deberiamos saber que desea hacer exactamente el compañero que pregunto...
