El frame buffer, es una manera de configurar el servidor de XFree cuando tu tarjeta no está soportada por ningun servidor específico y no quieres utilizar el VGA :-p basta con que cumpla las especificaciones VESA.
Segun los chicos de XFree (No me manejo mucho en inglés)
