sim clareou, vc fez uma pequena confusão entre "ipw"3945 e o
"iwl"3945, ambos são drivers para a mesma placa, mas faz o seguinte:
#aptitude search iwl3945
vai listar alguns pacotes... Instale todos.
Saída do comando: não retornou nada.
depois instala o network-manager ....applet do seu ambiente, vc usa gnome? kde?
Gnome. O network-manager já está instalado. Veja abaixo:

Usando o menu Sistema>Adminstração>Rede, se eu marcar a opção "Habilitar
modo de roaming", o sistema encontra meu AP, indica nível de sinal
excelente etc. Aí é que eu entendo menos ainda. Se desmarcar essa opção,
volta a indicar "Nenhuma conexão de rede", mesmo com o cabo plugado e a
rede funcionando pela cabeada. Estou usando neste momento para mandar
este e-mail (via rede cabeada).
