Gdzieś można znaleźć gotowy skrypt dla wersji 4.6, ale już nie
pamiętam gdzie (sam nie korzystam). Z pliku NEWS:

        - When using support for setting the last working directory of
          mc in the parent shell, "mc" is now an alias in all shells,
          not a function.  The "-P" option needs an argument now.

/home/alpha% mc --help |grep \\-P
  -P, --printwd=ARG      Print last working directory to specified file
