Alsa: kein\a zu hören

Hallo,

vorab: Ich kenne mich mit Alsa nicht wirklich aus - ich krieg nur die
Lautstärke reguliert ;-).
Alle Töne, die auf der Konsole mittels \a erzeugt werden, werden bei mir nicht
ausgegeben. Das Problem tritt auf diesem Notebook unter Etch sowie Lenny auf.
Unter Windows wird der Ton ordnungsgemäss ueber die Notebooklausprecher
ausgegeben. Ich habe bereits in diversnen Foren nach einer Lösung gesucht,
aber keine gefunden. lsmod sagt, dass

pcspkr                  3200  0

geladen ist. Softbeep funktioniert auch nicht, ich versuchte z.B.:

softbeep python

Kann man die Umleitung für den Ton in Alsa konfigurieren?
