Das  ist ein Steinzeit-Font der kein € symbol hat.

    consolechars --font=lat0-16
    loadkeys de-latin1

produziert bei mir das € (ich schreibe Dir von der Console aus, weil
unter X mein Pointer nicht funktioniert)

Kommt auf das selbe raus
