Immer mehr USB-Sticks haben eine Partitionstabelle, so auch Deiner.
das "p1" bedeutet, dass auf dem Device
//dev/scsi/host5/bus0/target0/lun0 (alias /dev/sda)
eine Partition vorhanden ist.

Probier mal  'mount -t vfat /dev/sda /media/usb
