The upstream project is in MS Github which is a non-starter for
me. I’ll go as far as /reading/ from the site. I’m surprised such a
crippling bug has not been reported there, but I found this comment:

I do not fully understand the comment, but to me it rather looks as if the author gave some comments on the new behavior of the package instead of accepting a bug.

Apparently Bookworm is using the absolute latest version of acro
(3.8). So from the Debian side, the acro version needs to be rolled
back.


I won't do a roll back. If you need the old version back, please install it into your LOCALTEMXMF tree and use it.
