The luatex binary shipped with texlive is not compatible with zlib 1.3 (zlib1g 1:1.3.dfsg-2 on Debian Sid).

$ luatex
PANIC: unprotected error in call to Lua API (zlib library version does not match - header: 1.2.13, library: 1.3)
Aborted
$

This bug has also been reported on the Arch Linux forum:

I am using Debian GNU/Linux trixie/sid (up to date) with the Linux 6.5.0-4-amd64 kernel.
