Package: tex-common Version: 6.16 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, (This is my first foray into bug reporting on a Linux distro, so if I make any mistakes, let me know!) *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** Preface regarding my system: ----------------------------- My system is a Lenovo ThinkPad W530, Type 2447; but with 32 GB RAM. This is why I have set APT to hold any packages matching the following critieria: 1) "*nvidia*" 2) "*cuda*" I have the "nvidia-tesla-418-driver" package(s) installed, and I don't want anything else breaking it, so I have this held. I'm unsure if this is a cause of the error or not. ============================= Prompt #1: What led up to the situation? ----------------------------------------- I went to install Blender and all the suggested / recommended packages so I could have the maximum funcionality out of the program. I used "apt install blender --install-suggests --install-recommends" (That last switch may be incorrect, if so, substibute the correct one there, I can't recall right now.) ========================================= Prompt #2 / #3: What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective) / What was the outcome of this action? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I noticed the error that dpkg reported: exit code -1, and the package "tex-common". I saw that it made a error report with the name "fmtutil.<random chars>", but I thought that perhaps it was a fluke brought on by the mammoth number of packages I had it installing. I ran "dpkg --configure tex-common" to see, and the same error happened. I looked in the error file it generated, and it was really long, and quite frankly, I couldn't follow it. (I don't think it'll let me attach it to this report; this is the second time I've typed this due to a ironic error in reportbug: it failed to write the header in the bug report, and the file failed to attach there.) Oddly, neither APT or dpkg report any broken deps with this erroring package; they just try to reconfigure it every time any action is performed with them, and Blender seems to be working fine? However, I doubt it's all functioning, since parts of the package are not configured. =============================================================================================================================== Prompt #4: What outcome did you expect instead? ------------------------------------------------ The package to not be stuck in a limbo of installed but not configured. ================================================ -- System Information: Debian Release: 11.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-13-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages tex-common depends on: ii dpkg 1.20.9 ii ucf 3.0043 tex-common recommends no packages.
