During texlive installation, the file pdftexconfig.tex
is not found at multiple occasions:

(/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/plain/config/pdfetex.ini
! I can't find file `pdftexconfig.tex'.
l.4 \input pdftexconfig.tex


One possibility is

cd /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/plain/config/ \
&& ln -s /usr/share/texlive-base/pdftexconfig.tex .


I am using  

cat /etc/debian_version
6.0.5

kernel  2.6.32-5-686 #1 SMP Sun May 6 04:01:19 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux
