Package: texlive-fonts-extra
Version: 2018.20190131-1
Severity: normal

Quick report: an apt-get upgrade hangs when installing
texlive-fonts-extra_2018.20190227-1_all.deb. Neede tp kill process.

Running
dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/texlive-fonts-extra_2018.20190227-1_all.deb
directly also hangs in same way. Actually it looks like a crash:-
Running with
dpkg -i -D10 /var/cache/apt/archives/texlive-fonts-extra_2018.20190227-1_all.deb

The process runs for many minutes and then appears to crash (the screen
also blanks and has to be restored).

Good to hear.

Guess you missed it.

I am surprised that this does not suffice ... the installed size is
	Installed-Size: 1101775
so there should be ample space even with two copies.

There is no overhead in these packages, just *lots* of fonts.

> I know that you don't like splitting texlive packages too far, but I do

It is not my decision. Debian-devel decided years back that they don't
want splitting into one Debian package per one TL package, and so I did
it. It wasn't my call back then in 2005.

And no, I have no intention to restart packaging everything in single
packages now after years of development work.

Please complain to dpkg maintainers. This is a common problem, and it is
very unfortunate that dpkg still cannot guess the needed disk space and
check for availability, and even if that fails, does not give proper
error messages on failure.

There is nothing I can do here, thus I am closing this bug.

Best

Norbert
