I don't think so. Opentype is generally better rendered on-screen than
Type 1.

If the glyph is really wrongly declared in the font, I think it's
priority that this gets fixed. In the mean time, however, I think
poppler should revert to its old behaviour and be less picky about such
declarations.

I'd even volunteer to bisect poppler, but there were 18 (!) SONAME bumps
between the reported good version and the affected one.
