Package: texlive-extra-utils
Version: 2007.dfsg.2-4
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/detex

I don't know how many people still use the diction package, for
important work I still find it useful. However, if the work in question
is LaTeX source, running detex -l still leaves the titles in the output.
When I run the detex'ed LaTeX through diction, since the titles have no
period to end them, they get prepended onto the sentence which follows
the title. Which generates the odd "error" from diction.

If detex could strip titles, that would help things. I have looked at
LanguageTool in the past, and it really doesn't like to be called as
a command line program, but I suspect it has its own problems
differentiating text from titles. I have written to the LanguageTool
people, who agree that eventually it should also behave nicely as a
command line tool. None of this LanguageTool information has
anything to do with detex, but in so far as people doing grammatical
analysis of LaTeX source goes, it might be of interest.

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Dear bug submitter,

the bug you have submitted against one of the TeX packages concerns
not the Debian packaging of TeX Live, nor the upstream TeX Live
distribution itself, but Up-upstream, the original author of
the respective package.

TeX Live only collects what authors provide.

Thus, neither we, the Debian TeX Team, nor the Upstream TeX Live team
can fix anything regarding this bug.

Furthermore, the bug you have reported is rather old.

We suggest you to do the following:
* verify that the bug is still present with current TeX Live (2013)
  installation on Debian
* if yes, please report the bug to the *original* author of the TeX
package, and *not* to upstream TeX Live nor Debian

Other ways to deal with these bugs are requesting help from TeX experts,
your local TeX consultant, or local TeX User Groups. One good place to
ask questions is the newsgroup comp.text.tex, or the StackExchange
website http://tex.stackexchange.com

Thanks a lot for your understanding

Norbert
