That demand isn't coming from me.  Someone with interest in xdvi can
take up that cause.

Not sure why complexity actually matters given that it took me 10
minutes anyway (and was intended as a helpful solution to the
problem).  I could have just said here's the issue, fix it, but
instead I sat down and figured out a solution.

Anyway, the point is that baring a rewrite, this is a possible solution now.

All intuition and knowledge says that embedded code and dead libraries
are wrong, but of course it's ultimately your call as the maintainer.

It is not my intent to override your approach, just to educate.
