The manual page says:

EXAMPLES
<snip>
       Example: look for HiresBoundingBox and produce corrected
       PostScript:
       epstopdf -d --nogs --hires test.ps >testcorr.ps

Where do you see the note that --nogs should work the same way as
--filter?
