It is *very* strange.

THis convolute of unreadable bunch? I tried quite some time
to get something useful out of it, without success.

I checked the postinst of texlive-base, and what happens is in principle:

TEXMFTREES="/usr/share/texmf /var/lib/texmf"

if (something happens) then
  TEXMFTREES="$TEXMFTREES /usr/share/texmf-texlive"
fi

mktexlsr $TEXMFTREES

---

then it triggers some actions in tex-common, and tex-common in turn
it self contains more or less the same code as above.

SO I have *NO* idea where it comes from.

Can you easily check if the ls-R file in /u/l/s/texmf is presetn
*after* the installation, but *before* the purge?

It is a mystery where it comes from.

Is it possible to tell piuparts to execute between every step a
command (ls /usr/local/share/temxf) so that we see when it comes
into existence?

Best wishes
