The trick is: the font files are put as zip file to CTAN. And this
zip-file was packaged as found there:
/usr/share/doc/texlive-games/latex/chess-problem-diagrams/fonts.zip

Unzipping that file, distributing the font files correctly to the
texmf tree and running mktexlsr should solve your problem.
