I got now some feedback from the users at our site and the backported patch seems to be ok. I have raised again the severity to 'important' because even if pdfcrop is only one of the extra-utils, it is unusable due the ghostscript bug (if you do not agree on the severity, please downgrade, will then not change it again). Would be really great to have pdfcrop working again in Lenny! Bests and thanks for maintaining the texlive package. Salvatore
