Bug#581556: texlive-latex-base: pdflatex produces wrong page size

pdflatex produces files of the wrong page size when I use
\documentclass[a5paper]{book}
The result is a PDF with an a4 page size, but with the text
occupying the top left portion of the page, corresponding to
the size of an a5 page. This is the case when I open the PDF
in either Evince or Xpdf.
When I compile the same tex-file using 'latex', the resulting
DVI file is fine when I open it in Evince.
I have included a minimal latex file below to reproduce the problem.
The bug report is marked as important, because it would be if this
is the case for all users of nonstandard page sizes.
When compiling it with pdflatex, I get the following output (when compiling
a file called Doc.tex):
