Bug#574676: pdflatex font metrics generation problem when run as a web-server user

Hi Hilmar,

Thanks, it worked. I set VARTEXFONTS to /tmp/.texmf-var and it worked.

However I think it may be better to leave that to $HOME/.texmf-var at

05TeXMF.cnf and change the value of that variable inside the script that www-data runs, would it be a better idea? One problem I am thinking is, once /tmp/.texmf-var is created by www-data, will that place be available for other users?

Thank you!

Hi,

I think this package has some issues. pdflatex run as a www-data
user fails to create pk fonts cache at the working directory (the
directory is writable by www-data) or /tmp. It fails with the
following error:

*(see the transcript file for additional information)
!pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file ecsx1000): Font ecsx1000 at 600 not found
==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!

IIRC the default to write the fonts to is the home directory of the
user ~/.texmf-var/.... If you don't like this you may change this in
/etc/texmf/texmf.d/05TeXMF.cnf, the parameter is called VARTEXFONTS.
Don't forget to run update-texmf as root.

Does this solve your problem?

H.
