If you are willing to compile from scratch, then a backtrace of a non-stripped metapost would be quite helpful. http://foundry.supelec.fr/gf/project/metapost/frs/ This has a slightly different version of kpathsea, but that should not matter for this bug. Unpack, then run ./build.sh --nostrip , and ask gdb for a backtrace right after the crash. Best wishes, Taco
