Hm, I'm not sure whether force-confmiss makes any difference here.

Hm again - that might have been a bad idea.  If those files where
present, it means that dpkg has not even tried to configure the
respective package.  I'm not sure what the result will be if it is tried
afterwards.

Are the packages configured now?  What's the output of 

dpkg -l texlive* | grep -v ^ii

You mean, makempx is missing?  And that's a problem you encounter when
you use mpost, not during package installation/configuration?
