Package: tetex-doc
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

After recent discussions on fr.comp.text.tex it appears that beginners
do not easily find documentation. Of course one can browse HTML doc, but
it is simpler to use texdoc to view doc of a certain package.
Unfortunately some packages provide doc with a non trivial filename.
For instance, you have to type `texdoc amsldoc' to view amsmath
documentation.

It would be nice if there was symlinks to the right file.
With the previous example, all .sty and .cls files under
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/amslatex might have a corresponding DVI file
which is a symlink to amsldoc.dvi.gz so that `texdoc amsmath', `texdoc
amsbook', etc, display something useful.

You filled the bug http://bugs.debian.org/62859 in Debian BTS
against the package tetex-doc. I'm closing it at *unstable*, but it will
remain open for older distributions.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/472810. That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
